Dyersville is located in eastern Delaware and western Dubuque Counties in northeastern Iowa. It has an estimated population of 4,167 residents. The town of Dyersville is home to several interesting attractions. The Basilica of St. Frances Xavier is located there, one of the few minor Roman Catholic basilicas in the United States outside a large metropolitan area. Dyersville is also the location of the baseball field that was built for the film "Field of Dreams." Called a pop-culture tourist attraction, the studio built the baseball diamond on two farms a few miles outside Dyersville, which were left intact when production was completed. Most of the baseball field, including the diamond and the adjacent house, was on one farm owned by the Lansing family, but the left and center field were on an adjacent property owned by the Ameskamp family. In 2007, the Ameskamp family sold the land containing their portion of the baseball field to the Lansing family, so as a result, the entire movie set is now owned by the Lansing family. A small souvenir stand is located at the site. Dyersville is also home to the National Farm Toy Museum, which specializes in preserving and displaying scale models, replicas and toys based on farm equipment. The Ertl Company, an American toy company best known for their die-cast metal alloy collectible replicas of farm equipment and vehicles. The toys are well known for their detailed, small-scale representations of tractors and other vehicles.

Northeastern Iowa has a four-season climate that is classified as humid continental. Nearly three-fourths of the annual precipitation is received April through September, with severe thunderstorms possible during this time. The northwest section of the state is somewhat drier in summer and colder in the winter than the southern regions. Seasonal snowfall statewide is 32 inches. Blizzards are possible in winter and tornadoes can occur during spring and summer. January and February are generally the coldest months, although late winter and early spring storms in March and April have been known to produce large amounts of snow. Hot dry winds, originating in the desert southwest, occasionally reach Iowa in the summer, producing unusually high temperatures. Autumns are generally mild, sunny and pleasant.
