Cedar-Rapids
is the second largest city in Iowa and is the county seat of Linn County. It is located in the east-central portion of the state and has a population of approximately 126,000, but the population of the entire Cedar Rapids/Iowa City metropolitan area is about 423,000. Cedar Rapids lies on both sides of the Cedar River and the City Hall and County Courthouse are located on Mays Island, an island on the river. Cedar Rapids is nicknamed the City of Five Seasons for the traditional four seasons and a fifth season which is a time to enjoy the other four. The symbol of the five seasons is the Tree of Five Seasons sculpture in downtown Cedar Rapids along the north river bank. The name Five Seasons and representations of the sculpture appear throughout the city in many forms. Cedar Rapids is a flourishing center for the arts and theater in Eastern Iowa and is home to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, the Paramount Theater, the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra and the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance. Other museums in the city include the National Czech & Slovak Museum, the African American Historical Museum and the Grant Wood Studio at 5 Turner Alley. The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art houses the largest collection of Grant Wood paintings in the world. Cedar Rapids also boasts thousands of acres of parkland, including three state parks, a large off-leash dog park and four county parks. In addition, the Cedar Rapids - Iowa City Corridor offers miles upon miles of interconnected trails - offering both urban and rural scenery. For those who love golf, the area offers more than 20 public golf courses and three country clubs, which area also opened to the public.

Northeastern Iowa has a four season climate that is warm during the summer and extremely cold during the winter. Summer temperatures tend to be in the 70s and winter temperatures are in the 10s. The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate during summer and fairly limited during winter with an average difference of 19 degrees Fahrenheit. The annual average precipitation in central Iowa is 33.15 Inches. Rainfall in is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The wettest month of the year is June with an average rainfall of 4.82 inches.
