Iowa-City
is located in Johnson County in eastern Iowa. With an estimated population of 67,000, Iowa City is the fifth-largest city in the state. It lies adjacent to Coralville, Iowa and surrounds University Heights, Iowa, with which it forms a contiguous urban area with a population of approximately 147,000. Iowa City was the second capital of the Iowa Territory, and the first capital of the state. The Old Capitol Building is a major landmark of the city and stands as a tourist attraction in the middle of the University of Iowa campus. In 2008, Forbes Magazine named Iowa City the second Best Small Metropolitan Area for doing business in the United States. Iowa City offers a wide variety of attractions, including the cultural offerings of the Iowa Writers Workshop and the Iowa Avenue Literary Walk, which includes a series of bronze relief panels that feature 49 authors words that all have ties to Iowa. The city also sponsors a variety of events in the Summer of the Arts program. These include a nationally renowned jazz festival, a festival of the arts, open-air summer movies and free concerts. Hickory Hill Park in Iowa City is a large natural area consisting of 190 acres of forest, abandoned fields, reconstructed prairie, wetlands, and parkland centered around Ralston Creek and its tributary drainages. The park is popular with day hikers, dog walkers, cross-country skiers, sledders, and picnickers. Pedestrian Mall, or "Ped Mall" as its called by locals, features events such as the Friday Night Concert Series in summertime and the annual Iowa City Jazz Festival and Iowa City Arts Festival. The Ped Mall also contains restaurants, bars, shops and hotels.

Northeastern Iowa has a four season climate that is warm during the summer and extremely cold during the winter. Summer temperatures tend to be in the 70s and winter temperatures are in the 10s. The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit, while the coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature variations between night and day tend to be moderate during summer and fairly limited during winter with an average difference of 19 degrees Fahrenheit. The annual average precipitation in central Iowa is 33.15 Inches. Rainfall in is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. The wettest month of the year is June with an average rainfall of 4.82 inches.
