Coralville is located in Johnson County in east-central Iowa. It is a suburb of Iowa City. As of 2007, the estimated population was 18,250 residents. It is known for being home to the Coral Ridge Mall, which opened in 1998 and was the largest shopping mall in the state at that time. Coralville is also home to the Iowa Firefighters Memorial, located just off I-80 at the First Avenue exit. Each winter, the town celebrates the season with the Coralville Winter Fest, which features indoor and outdoor hands-on activities, winter demonstrations, food, entertainment and fun for the whole family. Nearby Iowa City offers a wide variety of attractions and cultural offerings, such as the Iowa Writers Workshop, the Iowa Avenue Literary Walk and the Summer of Arts program. Hickory Hill Park in Iowa City is a large natural area consisting of 190 acres of forest, abandoned fields, reconstructed prairie, wetlands, and parkland centered around Ralston Creek and its tributary drainages. The park is popular with day hikers, dog walkers, cross-country skiers, sledders, and picnickers. Pedestrian Mall, or "Ped Mall" as its called by locals, features events such as the Friday Night Concert Series in summertime and the annual Iowa City Jazz Festival and Iowa City Arts Festival.
